For reference 8mm and 12mm are typical insulin syringe sizes.
Pen needles are meant for Sub Q injections as the longest is 12mm (1/2 inch) and 1 inch is needed for Intramuscular injections. The shorter tips 4mm, 5mm, and 6mm will need to be held in to skin longer to allow all fluid to release.
Choosing the Right Needle Size
Choosing the right size needle tip Insulin pen needles come in 6 sizes 4mm,5mm,6mm,8mm,10mm and 12mm
On the v2 pens sizes 4mm, 5mm and 6mm sit just below the cap. 8mm, 10mm and 12mm sit above the cap.
The inside tube in an insulin pen needle is much smaller than a syringe for comfort.
Keep in mind that when you push the injection it will take a little bit longer to travel through the needle tip especially higher doses with smaller needles so make sure you hold for a count of 10 to 15 afterwards to allow all fluid to empty completely.
For reference a typical insulin syringe is size 8mm and 12mm
The Difference Between V1 and V2 Pens at Refillpen
V1 pens - made from metal - go up to 80 units - closed cap injection which means you will see and feel the injection
V2 pens - made from metal - go up to 60 units - open cap injection which means you can do the injection with the cap on or off when you use it with the cap on the cap distracts the nerve endings in your skin so not only will you not see the needle but will feel it much less. ​​
V2 Pen Users Additional Information
The pen opens in 2 different ways. 1st way is by unscrewing the cap. 2nd way by pulling the cap off. To locate the cartridge holder pull the cap off.
The black plunger won't come down properly unless the pen is fully assembled with a glass cartridge in the pen.
General Pen Information
1. The glass cartridges from Refillpen.com are sterilized they go through a double sterilization process and are finished individually steamed.

2. The glass cartridges hold up to 3ml of fluid and are to be disposed of after you use up the 3ml of fluid.

3. Needle tips are one time use and can be purchased at Amazon or diabeticwarehouse.com

4. The size lure lock we use is Disposable Luer Lock Needle 30Ga 5/16 Inch 8mm
5. Yes you can swap cartridges in and out of one pen, but you must re-prime the pen each time (line up the black plunger with the gray stopper and purge one unit to verify it's correctly lined up.

All the pens use a standard 3mL cartridge and universal pen needles.

They operate in single unit doses up to 60 for V2 and 80 for V1 Pens.​

All pens are reusable just replace the glass cartridge. Cartridges are single use.

The pens are version V2 which allow the needle to be hidden while using. The cap can be replaced once the needle is installed and then used. Alternately the pen can be used without the cap like a V1
